MissionTo promote economic development through tourism along Historic U.S. Highway 21.
CouncilThe “Take A Break From the Interstate” tourism initiative began in 2012. This tourism Council currently promotes regional travel, tourism and economic development on U.S. Highway 21 from Harmony, NC to Wytheville, VA.
The Council is comprised of member partners from communities along U.S. Highway 21. Funds to operated the tourism initiative is provided by sponsoring localities in coordination with Miles J.O.B Fund and in accordance with the annual budget of the organization. The "Take A Break From The Interstate" is a successful marketing and promotional effort dedicated to encourage travelers to visit the small towns, attractions and events along Historic U.S. Highway 21. The initiative is successful due to the enthusiastic support and membership from towns and counties between North Carolina and Virginia, tourism agents and the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. Sponsored by Miles J.O.B. Fund and partially funded by occupancy tax paid through the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) along Historical U.S. 21 Corridor. MeetingsThe Take A Break From The Interstate Council meets on the last Monday each month at 1:30 PM in Sparta, NC.
