Elkin, North Carolina
Elkin, North Carolina is the geographic center of the gorgeous Yadkin Valley located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In Elkin, you can experience 6 vineyard tasting rooms along with dozens more in the surrounding Yadkin Valley Wine Region (AVA).
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Elkin is known for its charming downtown (with art galleries, retail, quilt, fiber, and antique shops to explore) and is situated along the Yadkin River. Elkin downtown is a NC Main Street Community and has been since 1998. We celebrate the history and the beauty of our downtown buildings, and focus on design, events/promotions, economic vitality, and creating partnerships within the community to enhance downtown's development. You'll find a microbrewery, restaurants, numerous trails, nightlife, and lots of friendly faces. It's well known as a place to relocate to for young families (great school options) as well as retirees (lots of active seniors and an award-winning hospital)! Numerous shops & restaurants make up Elkin’s bustling downtown, and from February through December, Elkin’s downtown Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9 am to noon. Learn more here. Downtown Elkin Cruise-In events are held from April to November (the 4th Saturday of each month). Join hundreds of car enthusiasts, starting around 3pm at the Heritage & Trails Center (257 Standard St). There are five annual festivals – the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival and the Elkin Roots Festival in June, Reevestock MusicFest, and the Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival in September, and Big Elkin Brewfest in winter. A series of downtown events also include Friday Food Trucks, Live at Five, Downtown Block Parties, Cruise-Ins, live music at downtown restaurants, monthly gallery walks, and family fun holiday events. Light Up Elkin and a Christmas Parade are an annual holiday celebration in early December. The newly renovated REEVES THEATER offers live music every Friday and Saturday night in downtown Elkin. Tickets are very reasonably priced, but there are also free live music nights on Wednesdays (open mic night) and Thursdays (live jams in the lobby). The Elkin area also offers some of the best places to hike, bike and paddle to see the fall color display. Elkin offers a wide variety of lodging including beautiful cabins located at the vineyards, downtown AirBnB's, and the #1 rated Fairfield Inn in the country for customer service!
